Venlafaxine is the first SNRI (Serotonin Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor) marketed in the United States of America. Venlafaxine acts by inhibition of 5HT reuptake (serotonin reuptake) and inhibition of NE reuptake (norepinephrine reuptake).
Depending on the dose of venlafaxine, it exhibits different degrees of inhibition of serotonin reuptake versus inhibition of norepinephrine reuptake. Inhibition of 5HT reuptake is present even at low doses whereas NE reuptake is seen at higher doses.Related Posts
